The Koru Road creamery was erected by the Oakura Co-operative Dairy Factory Company Limited in late 1905 to supply the Oakura butter factory in Oakura just under 7kms away. The creamery appears to have closed down at the beginning of 1907 possibly due to the distance from the Oakura factory and the October 1906 opening of another Koru creamery 1.6kms away on Plymouth Road for the Omata Co-operative Dairy Company Limited. No known remains.
The Koru settlers had agitated for a dairy factory or creamery since 1895 when they resolved to form The Koru Co-operative Butter Factory Limited. However, nothing eventuated until the establishment of the two creameries in close proximity in 1905 and 1906 (one for the Oakura Co-op and one for the Omata Co-op).
