Establishment and Early Operations

Ahuriri Flat became part of the Taieri and Peninsula Milk Supply Company’s expanding creamery network in late 1901. Early throughput reached around 500 gallons growing to over 700 gallons daily, and the site developed into a small community hub, even adding a grocery store in 1902.

Decline and Closure

Ahuriri Flat remained an active skimming station into the mid‑1910s, but its final chapter came abruptly. In January 1917, the creamery was destroyed by fire, with most of the plant lost. Although separators were quickly supplied to farmers, the district opted to trial home separation rather than rebuild immediately. This marked the end of the Ahuriri Flat creamery’s role within the Taieri and Peninsula network, closing a 16‑year period in which it supported local dairying and contributed to the wider regional industry.
